The 39-year-old Welshwoman, who celebrated with the 2008 Mercy song and won a Grammy Award, asked her 33,000 followers to support her Instagram, adding that she would share more details in an interview soon.

"You can't imagine how many times I've thought about writing this. I don't know what freaked me out now. Many of you wondered what happened to me, where I disappeared and why. The truth is that I was drugged, raped and held captive for several days. I survived, but it took me a while to recover. Now I'm good and safe, "Duffy wrote on Instagram, not revealing when that happened.

Her debut album Rockferry was the UK's best-selling album in 2008, and released the second two years later, after which she took a break from music.
